Charles Green funeral

It is with the utmost sadness that we let members know of the death of Charles Green this week.

We will write more fully in due course but for now wanted to inform you and let you know that his funeral is planned for 1 pm on Friday 27th January at Tarvin church.

It is our understanding that club members will be welcome to attend.

Below is the obituary which is to be published in the British Rowing Almanac in April.

Charles Green, a stalwart of Royal Chester Rowing Club, passed away on 27th December 2022 aged 82.

Charles has been a mainstay of Royals from the early 60’s; his name appears on virtually every page of the Club’s history since then. Charles’ prowess at rowing – a Wyfold’s semi-finalist in 1964, gold medallist at the World Masters in 1988 to name but two – was only matched by his drive and enthusiasm as a coach. Charles always had a sparkle in his eye and a kind word of advice whether you were a junior, a new starter or a grizzled master.

He was a committed club member off the water as well as on it, and we also remember most fondly his ability to organise a superb dinner or fund-raising activities. Thereby, and most importantly, bringing our members together in the most enjoyable of ways.

Royals will miss him greatly.
